FRAGILE
11 in x 24 in
CREATED: 2022
MEDIUM: Acrylic, POSCA paint marker
Inspiration from the 14th-century Chinese craft of blue and white porcelain. These exquisite artifacts evoke thoughts of ancient Chinese women, akin to the porcelain itself—externally adorned but inherently fragile. They were often manipulated by men, lacking the agency to determine their own lives. This reflection extends to my own mother, as gender inequality is deeply ingrained in Chinese culture. Mothers, in particular, bear the weight of unequal expectations, a reality that saddens me. Thus, I sought to infuse these emotions into this artwork. Referencing the aesthetics of ancient Chinese women and incorporating elements of blue and white porcelain, the ultimate aim is to convey a sense of the fragility of women.
